The Artemyevsky industrial complex hosted the Institute for the Study of Complex Mineral Development (IPKON) for testing their invention: IPKON silicate capsules.
Capsules were tested in the mine opening “БОК-6” situated at 600 meters deep. The geology of the rock mass consists of non-commercial reserves of copper-sulphide disseminated in a lava breccia, which is fully silicified with clinkstone in the peach-stones with radomly fractured rocks and a hardness coefficient of f6/8.
An anchor rod A22B of 22 mm diameter and 2.2 meter length was secured with silicate capsules of a 500 mm length and 27 mm diameter in the 35 mm borehole. Anchors were installed by a BOOMER self-propelled drilling rig made by Atlas Copco.
Four anchors were installed. Four capsules were used in each borehole. There was no difficulties to install the anchors with silicate capsules. There was no leaking or spillage of the mixture.
The bearing capacity was measured with the rod-pulling apparatus ПКА-3. The bearing strength of the anchor rods achieved was 13,5 tones without any displacement of the anchor in the rod, 40 minutes after the installation. The bearing strength of the anchor rods reached 14 tones 1 hour after installation, also without any displacement of the anchor.
The year before, on the 27th of November 2014, a first round of tests was done to determine the optimal quantity of capsules in order to achieve full encapsulation. The purpose of the second round of the in situ tests was to determine the bearing capacity of anchors secured with silicate capsules.
The conclusions of the testing committee were that: (1) the bearing capacity of IPKON silicate capsules satisfies the applicable standards; (2) a proper installation of anchors secured by silicate capsules can be achieved with a BOOMER self-propelled drilling rig.
The recommendation of the testing committee was to organize the 3rd round of tests using the process elaborated by the specialists of Artemyevskaya mine and the Institute for the Study of Complex Mineral Development (IPKON) in order to secure a whole testing mine lot with IPKON silicate capsules.
